Unveiling of Year 3 artwork at the Royal Mail Headquarters
On Monday, 8 students from year 3 were invited to the unveiling of their artwork at the Royal Mail Headquarters at Langley- where all the mail in the country passes through. Certificates were presented by the Mayor of Slough- Mr Jagjit Grewal and MP of Slough- Fiona Mactaggart.
Miss Uren and Miss Blofield were very impressed by the standard of artwork that the students had submitted and also their manners during the presentation.
We would like to thank Lucy Yoeman and Bob Laurence (from the Royal Mail) for organizing this event and being gracious hosts and also providing a scrumptious lunch for us.

Internet Safety at Cippenham (click here for a print version)
As part of our safe guarding children policy, the children in years 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 have all taken part in lessons and discussions about keeping safe when using the internet. We know that this is something that worries parents and felt that this input would raise awareness
and understanding amongst the children about the possible dangers of using the net, if care is not taken.
Nearly all the children in our school seem to use the internet widely at home, many of them using MSN, Facebook and the like, as well as down loading music, games and films. Because of this, we decided to show the children 5 short videos from the CBBC website looking at staying safe in chat rooms, social networking, on line gaming, instant messaging and the dangers of down loading files. These short clips show how easy it is to get into danger when using the net and told the children about the precautions they should take to keep themselves safe. The teachers then spent time talking to the children in their classes, discussing the issues and answering questions.
This BBC link takes you straight on to the web site that we used with the children, so you can see the kind of things that were discussed in more detail. You may well like to follow up the work we did with them at home.
If you are unable to follow the link. please cut and paste it into the internet browser.
There is also a lot of software available for parents to help keep track of children's activity on the net. This is usually very easy to use and install and information about it is available online.
Mufti Day for Haiti
We are running a mufti day (non-uniform) to raise money for the UNICEF Haiti earthquake children's appeal. UNICEF urgently needs funds to deliver essential emergency supplies such as access to shelter, safe water and basic health care. £30 will provide three families with water kits to enable them to have safe drinking water.
Normally we ask children to bring in £1 each but this time we are asking for as much money as you and they can afford. We are also acting as a collection point for any money that you would like to send in as we know how difficult it is to get to banks and charity shops during the working day to hand your contributions in. It would be great to be able to send off £1000 to this appeal!

Thank you and Happy Christmas to all of the Dinner Ladies.

Shoebox Appeal
Children and parents at Cippenham Junior Schol have shown, yet again, their kindness and consideration of others who are in need. We have had a wonderful response to our recent Shoebox Appeal and have managed to collect and send off 32 boxes to very poor families in Romania, Moldova and Albania. We hope that we have made some families a little happier this year. Well done to all those children who bought something in to donate!

Oct 2009:
The Pond Garden
Work has started on renovating the pond area. Although B&Q gave us lots of materials, they have been unable to provide us with a workforce! Mr. Goswell, our Caretaker, has spent days putting up the fence at the back and Graeme and Nolan Reid, from the building company who have been working in school, have also given us several days of free labour to help out. It is a huge job and the children have been nagging us all term about getting it finished. If anyone could possibly spare us a few hours any time during the week we would be very grateful. Once it is complete, we intend to put in there the memorial bench for Mrs. Cumber, our former dinner time supervisor, who sadly died last term.
If anyone has any spare time and energy, they'd be welcome to come and help - please contact Mrs Heeks for details.

Shoes for Africa
The collection of shoes is steadily growing; thank you for sending in so many decent pairs of shoes. Next week sees the end of the collection so please send as many pairs of shoes before Friday 9 October.

The whole school has taken part in a sponsored times tables test.

Now everyone needs to collect their sponsor money :-)
Sept 2009:
Our school restaurant
The cooks in our school restaurant have been using our own home grown veggies this week for preparing some of the food. The restaurant has been serving dishes which were cooked with vegetables from the allotment over the last few days – including tomatoes, cucumbers and soup.
Isn't that incredible!!! (24 Sept)
Shoes for Africa
We are collecting shoes to send to Africa again, starting on Monday 21 September. We will take any shoes so long as they are in good enough condition. Last year we collected a lot of shoes that made a difference to the communities who received them. Mrs Heeks has kindly offered to collect the shoes in her office until they are sent to Africa so please send them into her.

Parents to Lunch Day
We will be inviting parents and carers to lunch in our school restaurant next month so that you can enjoy the fantastic school lunches that we serve. The dates will all be on Wednesdays and are 7, 14 and 21 October. Details of how to reserve your lunch place and how much lunch will cost will follow in the next newsletter.
Family Shoebox Appeal
This year we have joined the 2009 Link Romania Family Shoebox Appeal. This involves filling a shoebox with Christmas gifts, toiletries, games and toys to send to very poor families in Romania, Albania or Moldova. This charity works with families who live in really poor conditions, mostly without running water, electricity or heating. They work all year round helping to rebuild lives and communities in Eastern Europe by trying to break them out of the cycle of poverty.
Netball
We are pleased to announce that the year 6 netball team will be getting new kit, thanks to Stanley and King Estate Agents.
